It's going to take a week to get this part recorded.
I've played this stupid part 45 times and it's still not perfect. I know...I'll time correct it. Crap. Now it's obvious the other parts aren't time corrected. I'll correct those too. My vocal isn't perfectly in tune. I'll auto-tune it. Crap. Now everything else sounds out of tune. I know...I'll auto-tune everything. There. Now it's perfect. It's all perfect.
And it sucks.
What just happened?
Removing all the "imperfections" removed the life from the music. If you want to impart a sense of urgency play ahead of the beat. You will create a feeling of pushing the song. For a completely different feeling play behind the beat. Think Bonham. Page playing ahead of the beat while Bonham plays behind the beat isn't technically "correct", but it sounds fucking awesome. We haven't heard fucking awesome on mainstream radio in decades.
So, now what?
Undo all the corrections.
