The finest songwriters of the day wrote the music. The most experienced arrangers determined which instruments would play the parts. The best studio musicians were summoned to bring themselves and their top notch instruments to the what many experts considered to be the best sounding studio in the Americas. Engineers with lifetimes of experience (and a room full of Grammy awards) were picked by the most respected producer of the day to carefully set out the very best microphones available. These microphones were then routed through carefully designed electronics to tape machines worth as much as a house. The producer sat with the musicians and played the song a couple of times deliberately making funny mistakes in order to keep everyone laughing and relaxed. Without telling the musicians the producer gave the "record" nod to the control room and the perfect take was recorded.

Forty years later an idiot is born who grows up to have very minimal recording experience, but tries to convince the internet that the fantastic sound of the recording was only possible because of a 2200 ohm carbon composition resistor in a piece of outboard gear.

The picture below is not an accurate representation.
